University of Victoria
Classes at the University of Victoria will resume in Fall 2010. In the meantime, the following courses are offered at Bodhichitta Centre:
Introduction to Tantra with Gen Kelsang Zopa
It is said that the teachings of Tantra, or Secret Mantra are the rarest and most precious of Buddha's teachings. Why? The highest human goal is the attainment of an ultimate state of peace in which all obstacles obscuring the mind have been removed and all good qualities such as wisdom, compassion, and skillful means have been fully developed. Buddha’s teachings on Tantra enable us to progress swiftly along the spiritual path to enlightenment by protecting our mind against ordinary appearances and ordinary conceptions. This course explores how we can use our imagination as a powerful tool to gain a deep experience of inner peace and happiness.

Freedom from Fear with Gen Kelsang Zopa
Fear is present in all our lives. As long as we have irrational fear we are not free. But once we discover why we feel fear we learn that fear is baseless; there is - literally - nothing to be afraid of. This course examines how we can establish the basis of a life that is free from all fear by meditating and taking Refuge in the Three Jewels, Buddha, Dharma, & Sangha. This practice of Refuge is the quintessential Buddhist method for solving our problems by relying on Buddha as our Spiritual Teacher, his teachings - the Dharma, and our community of fellow practitioners - the Sangha.

Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully with Gen Kelsang Zopa
We are all alive, therefore we will die. This is the simplest, most obvious truth of our existence, and yet very few of us have actually come to terms with it. This course introduces Buddhist insight into death and dying, helping us to develop an awareness of our own mortality in a way that will totally enrich and transform our human life. In particular, we explore traditional meditative practices that inspire positive states of mind and enable us to meet our death with grace, clarity and fearlessness.
