Powa for the Recently Deceased

Powa is a lovely ritual practice on behalf of those who have recently deceased.  Through doing Powa Ceremony with faith, compassion, and concentration we can transfer the consciousness of those recently deceased to a higher rebirth or to the Pure Land of a Buddha.

Helpful things to know:

Dedications: Dedications for this occurrence of the Powa Ceremony will include all the victims of Covid-19,  but we also encourage you to make specific dedications using our online “Request a Dedication” form.  Please try to complete your requests no later than Saturday evening to be sure they are transcribed for the ceremony in time.

Timing: The actual practice, including mantra recitation and meditation on transference of consciousness is about 45 minutes long.  We will start the online “meeting” at 12:45 to allow time to scroll the dedications for 15 minutes so that they all have a chance to be read.  The practice will begin at 1pm.

Prayer Booklet: A sadhana (prayer booklet) is recommended, but not necessary.  If you want one you can  purchase an e-version from Tharpa Canada at this link

Here is a brief overview of the meaning and stages of the ceremony for those of you who may not be familiar with it.  We recommend you print this out if you do not have a sadhana.  Powa Handout
