Saturday Morning Workshops

Have you ever wanted to know more about chanted prayers?

These Saturday morning workshops will answer all your questions and give you hands-on experience.

TIME:  Saturdays | 10.00 – 11.45am (or noon)

LOCATION:  Bodhichitta Buddhist Centre | In-Person

TOPIC:  An introduction to a particular chanted prayer or practice followed by guided practice. 

TEACHER:  Each class/workshop is led by an experienced Kadampa Teacher and practitioner.

FEES:  $12 – $15 cash, credit card, or cheque – pay at the door| Free for Members

NO REGISTRATION NEEDED:  Drop in a few minutes before class starts.

SCHEDULE:  Instruction 10-10.45am |15 minute break | Practice 11-11.45am (or noon)

WHO CAN JOIN?  No previous experience is required to attend any of these events.

Q. What are the COVID protocols for in-person participants?

*The teacher will remove their mask once seated.

The Liberating Prayer Explained

The Liberating Prayer, Praise to Buddha Shakyamuni, composed by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, is recited regularly during our meditation classes and Kadampa personal practice.

Nan will give a commentary of the prayer in 2 part to help give more meaning to this short, yet powerful and profound prayer representing all 84,000 teachings of Buddha.  Each commentary session will include a playing of the prayer.  Your questions will be welcome.

Introduction to Powa Practice

Powa is a special ceremony to help those who have recently died experience peace of mind after death and be cared for by the Buddha of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara.

During the ceremony we engage in the traditional Buddhist practice of transference of consciousness in conjunction with the prayers, “Path of Compassion for the Deceased”.

In this special class, Sachi will explain the practice and the iconography which will enrich your experience of this very special ceremony for the recently deceased.  We practice this as a group once a month at Bodhichitta Centre.

Introduction to Vajrasattva Purification

The Meditation and Recitation of Solitary Vajrasattva practice is an excellent way to purify our negative karma.  Any living being can commit negative actions; but only humans have the fortune to be able to purify them.

Since purification is the root of future happiness and spiritual realizations, we should strive to cleanse our mind of delusions and negative karma by practicing the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva.

Introduction to Liberation from Sorrow

Tara is an enlightened deity, a female Buddha, who is the  manifestation of the ultimate wisdom of all the Buddhas. By relying upon Tara with strong faith she will protect us from all obstacles and fulfil all our wishes.

Join us this Saturday morning in November and learn how to engage in Tara practice.

Alison Bowe, an experienced practitioner and teacher at our Centre, will give a teaching on the qualities of Tara, her practice, and how we can rely on her in the first session. The second session, we will engage in the Liberation from Sorrow prayers which includes praises to the twenty-one manifestations of Tara.

Kadampa Centre around the world, including the Bodhichitta Centre , engage in this practice on the 8th day of the month and everyone is welcome.
