Suitable for everyone! These classes offer practical methods to improve the quality of our lives through meditation and Buddhist teachings. See detailed course descriptions below.
DAY: Saturdays, 1.00-2.15pm
WHERE: Bodhichitta Centre, 970 Blanshard St., Victoria BC
COST: $12 per class or FREE with Membership
IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE: No registration necessary
We open our doors at 1:45pm. Please arrive a few minutes before class starts and pay $12 at the door (cash, credit card, or cheque) or just check in if a member.
MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP
Enrol in a $60 monthly membership and enjoy unlimited drop-in access to these classes plus discounts on other Bodhichitta Centre events. (Please enrol online at least 3 days before the class)
HOW TO GUIDE OUR ACTIONS WITH BUDDHIST TEACHINGS

Buddha taught many valuable guidelines explaining how to conduct ourselves in ways that will engage our hearts and prevent us from causing suffering for ourselves and for others.

In this class, we will take a deep dive into ways to express our naturally loving nature on behalf of others
JULY 30 ~ Avoiding Anger by Practicing Patience
Anger is our worst enemy in that it causes ourselves and others to suffer; fortunately Buddha taught many valuable techniques to manage anger when it arises.

Nan is a member of our Teacher Training Program and a founding member of our Centre. She leads noon mediation on Thursdays and regularly teaches in our Saturday program. She has been active in the Kadampa community for many years.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF EACH CLASS?
GUIDED MEDITATION Each class begins with guided breathing meditation, to help settle the mind and let go of distractions. If we wish, we can join in and recite the Liberating Prayer, which is a chanted prayer where we connect with the inspiration of enlightened beings.
TEACHING The teacher will then give a practical teaching based on a book by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
CONCLUDING MEDITATION The class will finish with a concluding meditation to help us take the teaching to heart and there is also the opportunity to ask questions.
WHAT ARE THE COVID PROTOCOLS FOR ATTENDANCE?
- Stay home if sick or not feeling well
- Masks are ENCOURAGED for attendees*
- Seating is limited to provide some space between attendees
- Venue will provide hand sanitizing supplies;
- Venue is practicing routine cleaning and disinfection.
*The teacher will remove their mask once seated.

Q. Do I need to be a Buddhist to attend?
No. Anyone can learn basic meditation and experience the benefits that come from having a peaceful mind
Q. Do I need to have any experience?
No. Everyone is welcome, including beginners. All you need is the wish to improve yourself and the quality of your life.
Q. How should I dress?
No special clothing is required, come as you are.
Q. Is there any physical exercise involved?
No. The classes focus on meditation and teachings alone. You can choose to sit on a chair or meditation cushion.
Q. Do I need to book in advance to attend in person?
No, please just drop in a few minutes before the class starts and pay at the door with cash, credit card or cheque. Members just tick their name on the list.
Q. Do I have to wait for the next series of classes to begin?
No, please feel free to drop in whenever you like. Each class is taught in such a way that if you only attend one class, you will derive benefit from it.
Q. What is your policy regarding fragrance?
We strive to be a scent free environment. Please help us keep the air we share healthy and fragrance free. The chemicals used in scented products can make some people sick, especially those with fragrance sensitivities, asthma and allergies.
Q. What is your policy regarding late arrival?
Our doors open 15 minutes before class start. Kindly arrive at least 5-10 minutes before class start to facilitate check in and get seated. Out of kindness for our volunteers, students and Teachers, we cannot accommodate latecomers. Thank you for your understanding.
