Ven Geshe Kelsang Gyatso - Bodhichitta Kadampa Buddhist Centre

On June 4th, Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day, we celebrate the 91st birthday of

Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

Join us in offering our faith, and remembering kindness.

June 4 marks the anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni’s’s first teaching in this world and also the birthday of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

We celebrate Buddha’s teaching, called “Turning the Wheel of Dharma”, and increase our appreciation and wish to put these teachings into practice.  Because of the great kindness of Buddha in turning the Wheel of Dharma, the people of this world have the opportunity to follow a spiritual path to the permanent inner peace of enlightenment.  Without these teachings there would be no path for us to follow and no possibility of bringing our suffering to an end.

As well, on this day, with minds of rejoicing and gratitude, we remember the extraordinary kindness of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, our Root Guru and Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition.  Venerable Geshe-la transmits Buddha’s profound wisdom and compassion to the people of the modern world in very practical and accessible ways through the methods of modern Kadampa Buddhism, which he introduced.

The day includes three sessions of prayer and mantra recitation.

In each session we will use the prayer booklet  Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land According to Highest Yoga Tantra and include Request to the Holy Spiritual Guide Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso from his Faithful Disciples.  As well, we will spend some minutes reciting Ven Geshe-la’s name mantra.

Everyone is welcome to take part.  Please bring your mala if you have one, and download the prayer e-booklet if you wish – available online from Tharpa.
