GUIDED RETREATS

Bodhichitta Centre offers guided retreats to allow people the opportunity to gain deeper meditation experience.  On retreat we stop all forms of business and extraneous activities in order to emphasize a particular spiritual practice.  This can just be one day, or a weekend, or longer if you have the time.

IN THE CITY or AWAY

We offer urban retreats at Bodhichitta Centre in the heart of Victoria and away retreats at beautiful locations on Vancouver Island. Use the links below to see what retreats are available and to find out more about retreats and meditation.

There is no better way to give yourself a break from the daily routine and reassess your life than by engaging in a meditation retreat.  Everyone needs to discover and experience the inner peace and healing power that comes from concentrating on Buddha’s wisdom and compassion.

FAQS

Q. Can I attend if I am a complete beginner?
Yes, retreats are beneficial for everyone, regardless of previous experience in meditation or familiarity with Buddhist teachings.

Q. Am I required to attend the complete retreat?
Although complete attendance is not mandatory, attending the entire retreat is highly beneficial, as each session builds on the next.

Q. Do I need to be a Buddhist to attend a retreat?
Our Purification Retreat is accessible to anyone who is simply wishing to explore meditation practice and Buddhist teachings but does not require you to be Buddhist to attend.  Some of our more in-depth retreats, such as the Refuge Retreat, are designed to help those familiar with Buddhism to improve their understanding and practice of the teachings through focused retreat.

Q. Will the meditation sessions be guided?
Yes, there will be a Centre Teacher guiding each session of the retreat.

Q. What do I need to bring to the retreat?
Nothing is needed for Day Retreats at the Centre, though some people like to take notes so you may wish to bring a notepad and pen.  For weekend retreats away from the Centre, you will receive detailed information on what to bring when you register.

Q. How should I dress?
Feel free to come however you are comfortable. We do ask that people remove their shoes when they enter the meditation room.

Q. Can I sit on a chair or do I have to sit cross-legged?
Yes, you can sit on a chair! There are also other seating arrangements for those who like to sit on the floor in the traditional cross legged style.
